Wool Advantages

    WOOL IS:

  • Hypoallergenic - People with sensitivities to chemically produced synthetics can sleep easily with pure wool. Wool is resistant to bacteria, mold, and mildew, which trigger reactions in some people.

  • Organic and Natural - You won't be breathing in petroleum-based chemicals as they break down. There are no chemicals!

  • Temperature controlled - Wool is warm in cool weather, cool when it's warm. Its fibers form pockets of air which insulate you naturally. You'll stay dry with wool and won't feel damp or chilled because wool wicks moisture away from your body.

  • Naturally fire retardant - Wool extinguishes itself when touched to a flame. It won't continue to burn. Because of this fact, firemen wear wool clothing. You won't be breathing in chemical fumes from added fire retardant chemicals, which are being banned in certain places due to their health risks.

  • Dust mite repellant - Dust mites need moisture to survive. Wool evaporates moisture quickly and is inhospitable to dust mites. Fecal matter produced by the millions of dust mites living in bedding is one the leading triggers for asthma attacks. This is wonderful news for children and adults with allergies and asthma. Other types of bedding such as down, feathers or synthetic materials provide a haven for dust mites.

  • Supporting and soothing - Those who suffer from fibromyalgia, arthritis and rheumatism find that wool supports them with cushioned softness. Wool's springiness relieves pressure points and muscle aches. Hospitals have used wool to enhance their patient's comfort for years. Wool promotes a deep, restful night's sleep.

  • Keeping your heart rate low - The study at the Polytechnic Institute in Wales showed wool-fill comforters had a lowering effect on sleeper's heart rates, as compared with feathers and other synthetic fibers which had no effect or increased the sleeper's heart rate. A lowered heart rate indicates the body is in a truly restful state. Wool not only lowered heart rates, but kept them at lowered rates while the sleeper's slept.

  • Comfort controlling - The average person loses a pint of sweat every night as they sleep. Wool wicks moisture away from your body and enables it to evaporate away from you. You stay comfortable and dry all night long. This lessens the time spent tossing and turning and you get a deeper, more restful sleep.

  • Renewable - No animals are killed in the making of Wool products. The sheep grazing on the pesticide free pastures are sheared by hand once a year.

IN SUMMER:

When asleep, the body's temperature begins to shut down. Water vapor is lost through the pores of the skin. A large volume of moisture can accumulate next to the skin and cause a sticky, clammy feeling, especially in humid climates.

Sleeping on wool helps to control this phenomenon. Porous and permeable, tiny holes in the outside layer of wool fibers allows moisture to pass through . Wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture and still feel dry.

Because of this wicking ability, moisture is drawn into the wool fiber (especially for those with night sweats). Body heat evaporates the moisture, and then it is released back into the atmosphere. Sheets remain cool and dry providing a crisp, comfortable surface in hot, muggy weather. This allows for more comfortable, relaxed sleep and best of al, there's less tossing and turning.

IN WINTER:

Wool is a natural insulator. The multi-dimensional fibers create countless air pockets that trap body heat helping to regulate one's body temperature. The air spaces between the wool fibers allow this warm air to circulate next to the body providing warmth on the coldest nights. A consistent body temperature keeps one from tossing and turning resulting in deeper more restful sleep. People look forward to going to bed when they sleep over and under wool.
